Tamarack Flooring

January 29th, 2009

I learned a little bit more about Tamarack flooring today. I called my supplier and they have changed their coating process to make the finish even more durable  and uniform. Tamarack is an Eastern Larch which mainly comes from the Eastern part of Canada. My supplier indicated that they were prefinising all their Tamarack flooring at a pre-finishing plant in Montreal, Canada. Tamarack can be somewhat difficult to finish because of the natural oils that are inherent to the wood.  I appreciate my suppliers comments and overviews of their products as it helps me to become more educated and updated on the products we sell.

Tamarack sounds like a good product, I have kids, what is Tamarack like for wearability? ls it finished in a natural colour or different stains?

Tamarack is very hard. It has a high Janka rating. Please keep in mind that it’s normally the finish on the wood that helps guard against wear and tare. The Tamarack has 10 coats of Aluminum Oxide finish which is normally 2 or 3 times more coating than most applied finishes.
