Since you can install the Diamond Essence products yourself, the difference in installation cost is huge. Installation cost can vary from region to region but it would not be unlikely that the homeowner could pay between $3.00 and $4.00 per sqft for installation on a standard deck that installs the traditional way. The average sqft of a deck would be around 400sqft so there is a cost savings of between $1200 and $1600 for installation costs if done by the homeowner and approx. 1/2 this cost if done by a qualified contractor as the time required to install this type of system is much, much less than standard deck boards. Also, if you compare the cost of building a hardwood deck the traditional way, the materials costs alone would be far higher. Typically, you can expect that a Diamond Essence deck tile installation will be less than half the cost of building a conventional hardwood deck. Diamond Essence Outdoor Flooring also offers more possibilities in terms of design, and can easily be taken up and reinstalled in another location if needed. If you are installing the tiles over an existing concrete patio or balcony consider the massive savings in time, cost and the backbreaking work of digging up and re-laying the concrete pad

The Diamond Essence Ipe decking tile can be purchased at Canadian Retail Stores or online at www.myocstore.com

Exterior wood coated with Clear Cutek® Wood Preservative will silver with age. Specially formulated colour-tones may be obtained to mix with clear Cutek® Wood Preservative to maintain the natural wood color character, delay silvering, and retain the “freshly oiled look” for longer. When selecting from the range of color-tones allow for the wood color to naturally lighten during the first three to eight months after application, as natural weathering and leaching occurs. Retention of color is more durable on rusticated, or band sawn timbers, and may be maximised by including the color-tone in all applications of Cutek® Wood Preservative. If color-toned Cutek® Wood Preservative has faded over time, wash wood with SARA Clean and apply a single coat of color-toned Cutek® Wood Preservative to restore the original look of the protected timber.

The color mixture comes in packets that are mixed into the 1 gallon contents of clear Cutek Green. Simply stir after pouring the color packets in and your ready to go.

Cutek Green is available for sale in North America through Otter Creek and they can be reached by calling 1-800-981-3590 or by purchasing the product at www.myocstore.com

Otter Creek is the Canadian Distributor for Cutek Green Wood Preservative. Company officials have received very positive feedback from customers with added interest increasing on a daily basis.

Otter Creek performed many tests with the product prior to bringing the product into its stain and seal lineup. With the harsh Canadian winters and the ever increasing extreme temperatures from hot to cold you need a wood preservative product that can stand up to these conditions, said Robert Abbott, President of the company.

Not all stains and sealers perform in the same manner and customers continue to complian to us that the product they are applying to their deck surface is just not standing up. Its either complains about peeling and cracking or extreme fading. In some rare cases complete breakdown of product has been reported. I must admit that I sometime think its an over reaction to the expectations of customers with the product they are using either by being told by the company that sold the stain or sealer product to them or their understanding of the product they purchased.

No matter which product you purchase and what you are told ALL STAINS with fade over time and reapplication is a fact of life with a wood deck surface and a wood deck will never be totally maintenance free. However, you can purchase products that will reduce and save your deck from continuous maintenance every year and also that will preserve your deck for many years.

You may say I’m trying to be partial to a product our company sells and I can understand people feeling that way BUT this product by far is the best stain, seal and preservative product I have come across EVER.

I’m so confident in this product that if any customer calls and complains the product did not meet with their expectations will refund the product purchase no questions asked. If you would like to learn more or purchase this product please call us at toll free 1-800-981-3590 or you can visit our online store at www.myocstore.com

Otter Creek, a Canadian Distributor of Specialty Building Materials is seeking building retailers such as Home Hardware, Rona, Castle and Tm-Br Mart stores that are seeking a truely great wood preservative and UV protection product called Cutek Green.

Cutek Green is a special version that is manufactured to contain less than 200 grams/liter of volatile organic compounds, enabling it to used and specified on most “green” projects as a solvent based coating. Specifically, Cutek Green has been independently tested to ASTM 3960 and determined to contain 173 grams/liter. Cutek Green® is identical in appearance and performance to conventional Cutek® Wood Preservative with the exception that it diffuses into the wood substrate at a slightly higher rate and with less dry time.

Cutek as a clear

Cutek is suitable for use as a clear, water repellent preservative coating on exterior timber surfaces; however the clear coated timber surface will lightly silver with age to produce a natural weathered appearance, while retaining its dimensional stability characteristics.

If this natural silvering of the timber is undesirable, then color toned Cutek Wood Preservative must be used to delay the silvering process in addition to maintaining and enhancing the natural color of freshly oiled timber.

Otter Creek would be glad to discuss retail opportunities within Canada by calling them at 1-800-981-3590. In the meantime this product can be purchased online at www.myocstore.com

Otter Creek is pleased to announce that Moffat & Powell Rona in London, Ontario is a new dealer for the Diamond Essence Ipe decking tile as of June 1st, 2011.

Moffatt & Powell Limited was a partnership formed in February 1956 by J. Keith Moffatt and Melvin Powell in the village of Watford. The core business was selling lumber, cement and coal. This trade had a sound footing established by Hiram Moffatt (Keith’s father) who had been operating the J.H. Moffatt enterprise at the same location since 1939. With a staff of four, including the two owners, the business flourished in small business quarters serving the farming and building communities in Lambton County and Sarnia.

In November 1960, a new showroom and warehouse facility was constructed at the present location, 494 Front Street in Watford. The Company continued to expand with the opening of a new and larger retail home centre and lumberyard on April 15, 1968, at 540 Albert Street in Strathroy. The successful operation of this Branch funded the third location on Hwy. 8-east of Mitchell, on November 1, 1973.

In January 1982, a merger was concluded between D.M. Powell Limited in Strathroy and Moffatt & Powell Limited. This increased the total number of stores to 5, with the Caradoc Street location in Strathroy and the anticipated opening of a branch at 1290 Trafalgar Street in London. Immediately after the merger, the Goderich and Exeter locations were acquired from the Conklin Home Centre Company.

David Powell purchased the shareholdings of Melvin Powell in Moffatt & Powell Limited and is today the partner of J. Keith Moffatt.

In March 1984, Moffatt & Powell Limited purchased the assets of the Harold Warwick Lumber Company at 126 Tillson Avenue, Tillsonburg. This gave the Company additional geographical coverage. With stores strategically located in and around London, the economic hub of southwestern Ontario, we are well situated to serve the needs of our contractor, farmer, commercial, and do-it-yourself (D.I.Y.) customer base.

The current Head Office and store location at 1282 Hyde Park Road was opened in 1996.

In 2006, Moffatt and Powell Limited celebrated their 50th anniversary, culminating with a two day event held at the Western Fair grounds. The first day was focused on trade professionals. On the second day, the traditional builder show was opened to the retail public for the first time, with great success. We at Moffatt and Powell Limited are excited about the opportunities for the future growth of our company and look forward to providing excellent customer service and product value for the next 50 years!

Our company Otter Creek located in Ontario, Canada has a couple of product lines the work well when trying to restore or finish a Ipe, Tigerwood or Cumaru deck for the first time or restoring after several years. We have found good results in the Woodrich Hardwood Finishing Kit and the Cutek Green products. Both products have attributes that other stain and sealers don’t offer. The Woodrich product is formulated with natural pigments that are found in Ipe (Amaretto color formula) and with Tigerwood and Cumaru its the (Brown Sugar color formula). When applied because the stain is formulated to the natural pigments found in these tropical hardwood species it takes longer for the UV rays to break down the wood surface which in turn results in graying of the wood surface. Most homeowners and contractors are finding they only need to apply once every two years. The other big plus is the product will not peel and flake which is a very big issue when dealing with stain products for hardwoods.

The Cutek Green works in a similar way but deeper penetration occurs with this product because it has a special wood preservative formula that migrates through the entire pc of wood (not just the surface) and provides additional stability to species such as tropical hardwoods and domestic species such a Pressure Treated Spruce, Pine, Fir and Western Red Cedar. The migration takes place within the living cells of the wood that contain water and drives the water out making the wood product more stable and protected against rot, twist and warping of your deck boards. Its available in 18 different stain colors and the colors come in packets that you mix into the clear product. Decking contractors like this product because it can be wet stacked which speeds up the installation time. Because the penetration rate is quicker than most products there is no worry of lap marks or brush stroke marks appearing from stopping and starting over a hour or days time.

Both of these products can be purchased at Otter Creek by shopping online at www.myocstore.com or by calling 1-800-981-3590.

There seems to be many cleaning and restoring wood products on the marketplace today but many of them do not seem to work as well as they state they will. Deck cleaning can be a labor of love at the best of times and having to perform this task each spring can be exhausting to say the least. Many decks in Canada are made from Western Red Cedar and I have discovered that most homeowners and contractors are needing a product that can clean and restore the deck surface easily and cost effectively. Cutek Green wood cleaner and restoring product is the best product I have come across in a long time. I like this product because not only does it effectively clean and restore your deck surface but it also has a chemical agent that migrates through the wood that helps prevent against warp and twist of Western Red Cedar decking. The wood preservative that is used migrates through the entire pc of wood and drives out the moisture that exists in the wood cells thus making the wood more stable. Our company Otter Creek is the Canadian distributor for this product and we would be glad to discuss its benefits in detail with any Canadian or U.S. homeowners and contractors by calling us at 1-800-981-3590 or you can purchase this product at www.myocstore.com
