I’m not at all concerned with it being a fire hazard. Ipe has a Fire Rating: a Class A Fire Rating, the same rating given to concrete & steel. The National Fire Protection Code it was determined that it’s fire resistance level is the same as concrete…can’t get much better than that!

Ipe’s strong, tough, resilient properties make it an excellent material and an increasingly popular choice for commercial/residential decking for patios and balconies and outdoor furniture. It is prized for its stability, durability, strength, and natural resistance to deca in wet conditions.

The Ipe decking tiles is idea where durability and high shock resistance are needed, particularly for any project near a sea resort. Any other type of wood would rot away over time with the salt from the ocean, but ipe is incredibly resistant to the elements. It is also used in sauna and marina construction, seaside resorts, golf courses, and outdoor facilities, and even in roofing applications.

Excessive unevenness in a concrete surface will need to be repaired with a patching compound or resurfaced prior to installation. The Ipe tile can also be installed over any surface such as concrete or a existing wood deck as long as the surface is flat enough to make the tiles lay smooth against one another. Shimming can be done below the tile top some extent but the best results are achieved if starting with as flat a surface as possible.

Tiles can only be used for steps or stairs if they are screwed securely to the base of the stairway or if you glue them with “Concrete Glue”. Additionally, end capping should be fixed to the edge of the tile to hide the plastic base. For the vertical edges transitioning down to the next step or to ground level, we recommend detaching the wood from the plastic base and affixing it to the surface with a quality adhesive designed for wood, and also designed for the surface you are attaching it to. You can also cover the edge of the carriage on the step above with this piece of wood. If you have a radius or curved edge that you need to cover, we recommend using bender board (available at hardware or lumber stores) that closely matches the color of the wood tile. A contractor should be consulted for any extremely hard installations.

You may however need to insert additional screws via the existing screw holes in the carriage base to ensure that each wood slat is still secured with a least two screws. The carriage is the underside of the tile that the Ipe slats attach to. There are several stainless steel screws in various locations on the carriage. The carriage is made of very durable hardened plastic that can withstand extreme temperatures either hot or cold.

Provided the surface and supporting framework are structurally sound and the surface is even, the tiles are an ideal and cost effective way to bring an existing deck back to its former glory, and perhaps a better looking custom design deck with the Ipe (Brazilain Walnut) species offered by Diamond Essence. Many customers cover up old decks with our Ipe decking tiles or they will accent a surface under a barbecue or entrance way. The tiles just take few munites to install and give a highend look to all or parts of your deck.

A little more than a year ago I placed a large order from your company of deckorator balusters and titan post anchors. We spoke on the phone and you had asked me to send photos of the completed project. I’ve attached a few. The anchors and balusters really gave my project the visual appeal I had hoped to achieve.
