Danfoss Electric Floor Heating Installed in Bathhouse
Our customer service team at Danfoss answers questions such as these on a daily basis. Selling Danfoss electric floor heating products is just the start of what we do and does not end at that. When customers call or email in their questions about the product or how to install it our customer service team is here to help.
Hi Patty- I bought and took delivery on a 72.5′ (2′ wide; 145′ foot of coverage) LX Mat system and am about to start its installation. My floor space turns out to be about 132′ (all sq ft measurements) and I’m wondeering if you can help me figure out what to do with the excess. This is a laundry and shower building going into North Dakota (3 small baths & a very small Suana). I think my options are:
1. wrap the walls of the Suana (it’s the last room), then cover it with a layer of OSB, then (with short fasteners) put up the tongue & groove cedar siding. (Should foil go under the mat or on top of it?).
2. at the end of the Sauna floor run, take the residual mat down through a 4″ hole in the floor (we could also cut a 24″ slot), then attach the mat to the underside of the floor and possibly cover it with a fews sheets or runs of OSB. This is a SIP building (Struturally Integrated Panels- foam core panels with OSB on both sides)- very structuraly strong and super heating/cooling efficient- they’re like building a home in a Thermos Bottle, essentially. Putting some heat down under the unit in it’s crawl space I would think would be a good thing as it will be skirted and might even keep the heat tape on the cold water inlet line from havinig to work as hard.
3. Taking the mesh off the wire for the last 13′ feet or so and coiling it on the floor back out of the Suana room, around its edges such that there is no cross over or excessive closeness to wire in the meshed part of the floor.
On the floor we are going to grout the wire mesh in with 1/2″ of polymer type mortar mix, smoothing it, then applying a pad and wood laminate flooring. It will be a very nice unit. People there work hard and need units like this to clean up, relax (Sauna) & launder in. The owner is from Canada and believes in Floor Heat systems and the units are too small to do hydronic efficently.
Your input to me is very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Dave
