Now I must say I have been an advocate of reclaimed wood for several years and in fact we stocked some in our yard in years past but it became a problem finding the old barns and other reclaimed materials that shipped cost effectively to our location. Not only shipping cost was a problem but finding qualified help and insurance was a big issue. To top things off the cost of the final product become so expensive due to the above factors and the waste that we incurred due to the reclaimed wood having knots, splits and other unusable defects we decided to discontinue the reclaimed wood altogether, until now!
A few months ago I was approached by a company called BitterRoot Valley Forest Products asking if I was interested in a reclaimed product from NEW WOOD, yes I said NEW WOOD. I listed to the gentleman speak for nearly an hour and was still very sceptical after we hung up. At the end of the conversation he indicated he would be sending me samples to review and that once I seen these samples that I would become a believer of their product.
Well as the saying goes “the rest is history” when I received the samples I could not believe my eyes. Here was NEW WOOD looking like it was 200 years old and to much surprise it was virtually defect free. I called my contact back and asked how quickly I could become a distributor. He explained that they were building a new website dedicated to “Ghostwood”, you heard me right “Ghostwood” and that my area was open for a distributor and that I should check bakc a few months later for the new website called www.mtghostwood.com .
Today is May 25th and is our first official day of becoming the distributor for this product and I wanted to share some information about the product on my blog so please take a few minutes and review the reasons why you should consider this product the next time your looking to purchase reclaimed wood for your next project.
Montana Ghost Wood is dedicated to use as much salvaged timber from the wild fires and beetle killed forest as possible. The Mountain Pine Beetle and forest fires kill living trees but do not harm the integrity of the wood. A large percentage of the company’s timber is salvaged from these standing dead trees. Due to the high altitudes, low humidity, and short growing season; these dead standing trees are some of the best timber around because its been dried naturally by Mother Nature.
Generally left to rot on the stump and go to waste, these trees are now being reclaimed and used in the companies “Montana Ghost Wood” product line. Reclaimed from the forests for their customers for generations to come. BitterRootValley Forest Products are proud to have partnered with fellow local mills, which purchase a large percentage of their timber from SFI (Sustainable Forest Initiative) certified mills.
