Hot and humid conditions do not affect the wood. The small gaps designed and left between the slats of wood allow the wood to naturally expand and contract as needed. Under some conditions, a slight cupping of the wood slats may occur after heavy rainfall, but this will disappear as the surface dries not unlike any other deck surface. The Diamond Essence Ipe decking tiles are very stable because each slat is just 2 3/4″ wide x 12″ and 24″ long, making them very stable. Rule is that the wider and longer a pc. of wood is the less stable it becomes.

General characteristics when it comes to color of the wood is olive brown to blackish, often with lighter or darker striping with some whitish or yellowish sapwood. The texture of Ipe is considered fine to medium with a low luster and the grain is straight in most cases.Ipe is very durable and naturally resistant to harsh weather suchas sun, wind, rain and snow. Ipe can be treated with a preservative such as Cutek Green or Woodrich to help extend its life even further but if left untreated it will weather to a silvery gray patina.
