Otter Creek seeks Canadian Retailers for Cutek Green Wood Preservative.

Cutek Green Wood Preservative

Otter Creek, a  Canadian Distributor of Specialty Building Materials is seeking building retailers such as Home Hardware, Rona, Castle and Tm-Br Mart stores that are seeking a truely great wood preservative and UV protection product called Cutek Green.

Cutek Green is a special version that is manufactured to contain less than 200 grams/liter of volatile organic compounds, enabling it to used and specified on most “green” projects as a solvent based coating. Specifically, Cutek Green has been independently tested to ASTM 3960 and determined to contain 173 grams/liter. Cutek Green® is identical in appearance and performance to conventional Cutek® Wood Preservative with the exception that it diffuses into the wood substrate at a slightly higher rate and with less dry time.

Cutek as a clear

Cutek is suitable for use as a clear, water repellent preservative coating on exterior timber surfaces; however the clear coated timber surface will lightly silver with age to produce a natural weathered appearance, while retaining its dimensional stability characteristics.

If this natural silvering of the timber is undesirable, then color toned Cutek Wood Preservative must be used to delay the silvering process in addition to maintaining and enhancing the natural color of freshly oiled timber.

Otter Creek  would be glad to discuss retail opportunities within Canada by calling them at 1-800-981-3590. In the meantime this product can be purchased online at www.myocstore.com

Canadian government formally announcing the regulations for the Architectural Coatings segment (which includes wood coatings).

April 3rd, 2010

At the end of September, we received notice from the Canadian government formally announcing the regulations for the Architectural Coatings segment (which includes wood coatings).  Of interest to all of us (from paint dealers, factory applicators, to consumers), the VOC limit is set at 250 grams/liter.  This is the final regulation and is in force as of the date of the Gazette (30 September 2009).  The prohibition is based on the anniversary date of the regulation becoming in force.  In other words, all exterior wood stains which are over 250 gm/liter will be prohibited for sale/distribution on the 3rd anniversary day of the regulation.  For all paint resellers out there, this means that all wood coatings over 250 gm/liter VOC’s be illegal in September 2012.

Response……
In short, this regulation will not have an effect as all of our formulations are already below that threshold.
If you are asking me to comment on each highlighted item. . .
this means that all wood coatings over 250 gm/liter VOC’s be illegal in September 2012.
I can’t speak for Canada but the way it works in the US, this sort of statement is usually hyperbole.  It is not “illegal” it is simply regulated.  For example in California they have the same regulations.  I could still sell them a product that was 350 g/l, I would just have to pay an additional tax based on the amount of that material I sold into that district.  I would assume the same will be true in Canada.  In the US it pretty much comes down to two words “Ban” and “regulated” where “Ban” means it is virtually illegal to do unless you are “special” and “regulated” means the public would support the gov taxing you more for this activity.
25 grams/liter or less
Only our Timber Oil formulation can be made that low.  I assume they have a water based formulation.
8 standard colors or tinted from 1 base to achieve the 8 colors
We currently offer 4 standard colors and a clear base.  We can produce custom colors in batch sizes of 150 gallons or more.  Our stock colors can be mixed to produce an array of halftones.  All of our formulations can be tinted with any oil based tint system.  We recommend high quality micro-ground transparent oxide pigments to retain the highest clarity.
a superb replacement for Flood Seasonite
I am not familiar enough with the two products to comment
3 base tints formatted to match Flood bases and fully tintable from your current tint machine
We do not currently offer any products that would compete with opaque finishes.
Tintable to 8 colours from one base
We have formulations that will compete with this water reducible alkyd formulation but they have not been scheduled for release.  I don’t foresee a release date prior to completion of our new manufacturing facility later this year.
