Lots of curious on lookers took part in floor demonstrations by Crompton’s Home Hardware at the Tillsonburg Home Show on the weekend. Urimat Waterless Urinals

Maintenance costs can very depending on the make and model of the waterless urinal and how frequently it is being used. Based on research online it looks like the average yearly maintenance cost of a waterless urinal will be between $150.00 and $200.00. All waterless urinals come with replacement cartridges. Sloan models uses oil that needs to be used and Urimat does not.  Cartridges need to be changed every 6 to 12,000 uses and a cartridge will cost between $50.00 and $60.00.  Cleaning supplies make up the rest of the yearly costs  which can include concentrated cleaner and cubes. I like the Urimat system over the Sloan when it comes to the cleaning and changing of the cartridges. Sloan uses oil and therefore it is difficult to know when cartridges need to be changed as the oil sits within the cartridge. Urimat uses a “Active Cube”that sits within the urinal and when it completely dissolves you know its time to change the cartridge. Cleaning of the urinals is done on a daily or weekly basis depending on the usage of the urinals. Cleaning a waterless urinal is not any different than cleaning water urinals when it comes to frequency. You must clean your urinals regularly to maintain a clean and odor free bathroom.

I like the waterless urinals because they help save valuable drinking water and from what I can see the technology has come a long way from when they were first introduced into the marketplace. If I had to make a choice between one or the other I like the Urimat model as it seems to offer a better visual maintenance for knowing when to change the cartridges and also it does not require any oil in the elimination of odor.

Urimat Waterless Urinal with Patended Drain Trap Insert

There is no other waterless urinal in the marketplace today that has the drain trap insert that operates without sealing liquid. The patended drain trap insert guarantees the smooth operation without sealing liquid. All other waterless urinals do not have this technology and operate with a sealing liquid which must be continually be replaced to ensure odours do not occur. With the urimat waterless urinal the urine flows into the cylindrical internal piece of the drain trap and from there into the overflow area.
