How to calculate square feet of mixed width flooring.

May 8th, 2009

Have you ever wondered how you calculate the percentage of each width of flooring you are to use in your flooring project when your using two, sometimes three, different widths of flooring. I had always struggled to inform my customers what was the correct percentage to use until I was speaking with a good supplier of mine and he gave me some very useful information on how to calculate the appropriete percentages.

For example you have 600 square feet of flooring you want to install and your going to use 2 1/4′, 3″ and 5″ widths.

Here is how you calculate what you need.

Take 600sqft x 2.25″ (smallest width of flooring being used) = 1350. Divide 1350 by the total of the three widths of flooring added together in this case its (2 25″, 3″ and 5″) = 10.25  = 132 square feet.

Take 600sqft x 3″ (2nd smallest width of flooring being used) = 1800. Divide 1800 by the total of the three widths of flooring added together in this case its (2 25″, 3″ and 5″) = 10.25  = 176  square feet.

Take 600sqft x 5″ (the largest width of flooring being used) = 3000. Divide 3000 by the total of the three widths of flooring added together in this case its (2 25″, 3″ and 5″) = 10.25  = 293  square feet.

Add all three square feet calculations together 293sqft+176sqft+132sqft= 601 square feet.

Now that you know how to calculate the mix of widths of flooring you need to order some hardwood flooring. I know exactly where you should buy it. Please visit www.pawbrandflooring.com

How you found this tip as useful as I did.
