Titan Wood Post Anchor

Question from City of Barrie

I am a Plans Examiner for the City of Barrie and I have a homeowner that wants to use the Titan Post Anchors. Do you have any testing that is stamped by an Engineer of Ontario?

Reply from Richard Bergman

Thank you Robert for your message.  In early December we successfully completed very extensive engineering testing for compliance with guard rails according to both the Ontario and Canadian building codes for our 4×4 post anchor up to 42″.   Intertek has a world class cadre of engineers and the report is being drafted right now.  This should be available some time early in the new year.  It will include maximum spacing, joist blocking, fastener and other specific configuration related details.  I trust it will satisfy all areas of interest.

Reply from City of Barrie

Thanks for the quick reply. It appears like it will satisfy what we require before we will approve the use of the product in the City of Barrie. I am sending a blind copy of this reply to the homeowner so that he is aware that it should be approved in the near future. I look forward to receiving the report when it is ready for our review.

General Info

To date thousands of the Titan Post Anchors have been installed both in Canada and the United States with great success and positive feedback from customers. Titan continues to expand its testing with all its products to continually satisfy the building code requirements in both Canada and the United States. Thanks Again, Robert
Robert

A little more than a year ago I placed a large order from your company of deckorator balusters and titan post anchors.  We spoke on the phone and you had asked me to send photos of the completed project.  I’ve attached a few.  The anchors and balusters really gave my project the visual appeal I had hoped to achieve.

Hope you enjoy the photos.  I’d need an aerial photo to capture the whole project in one shot.

Titan Post Anchors Load Test Results August 20th 2010

September 12th, 2010
SUBJECT: Point Load Test Results on 4×4, 6×6 and 4×4 with Post Brace Anchors with regards to
Intertek Test Reports 3195819TOR-003 & 3195819TOR-003b

Intertek Testing Services (Intertek) has conducted point load testing on a series of products for Titan Building
Products (Titan). The products tested include 4×4 post anchors, 4×4 post anchors with a post brace, and 6×6
post anchors. Testing was conducted on three (3) samples of each type and the average maximum load
achieved is reported below.
Testing was carried out on a simulated deck platform using joists spaced 16” on centre, a blocking piece and
deck boards. A calibrated load cell was used in determining the maximum load achieved and was placed in-line
between the post and a hydraulic ram used to apply the load. The posts were installed according to the

manufacturer’s instructions. The load was applied at 42” above the deck surface to one face of the post.

The 4×4 post anchors achieved an average maximum load at failure of 337 lbs. The mode of failure for these

post anchors was the lag screws pulling out from the bottom of the wooden post. The 6×6 post anchors

achieved an average maximum load at failure of 503 lbs. The mode of failure for these post anchors was the

pan head screws pulling out from the deck boards. The 4×4 post anchors with post braces attached achieved an

average maximum load at failure of 499 lbs. The mode of failure for these post anchors was that the pan head

screws that attach the post anchor brace to the wooden post pulled out.

The Titan Post Anchors can be purchased at www.myocstore.com
