Comments: Hello, I am actually constructing many furnitures using Ipe wood from both interior wooden floor and outdoor post that have started cracking (future legs). Those furniture will be used inside (coffee table, table, tv stand and so forth). I wish to know which kind of product would you suggest me. Here are my concerns : 1- I would like to get a produced that would prevent the wood from turning gray. 2- I wish also the wood to look as natural as possible 3- I wish to be as green as possible (minimal VOC and stuff like it) 4- Get the best wood protection possible. 5- Based on the product you will suggest me, wish product will affect the dryed up finish (water, alcool, heat, .) Thanks a lot! Sébastien

Reply

Hi Sebastien, thanks for the information. I would strongly suggest using the Cutek Green product as this would work very well for a wood preservative and uv protection. We are the Canadian Distributor and we sell 1 gallon container for $119.50 + shipping. Please visit the website and this will give you lots of information. It was developed by Chemisys Group in Australia.

After Using Cutrek Green Customer Replys……….

Hello Robert,

I have three technical questions regarding Cutek green.

First I must say that I am very impressed the way this products works.

1- Would you suggest complete sanding before application, do I need to sand between application, is it recommended… (my wood is IPE)
2- This product seems to get in so well within hardwood that I am planning trying it in guitar.
3- To be frank before I put this wood preservative in a piece of work that would have taken me 150 hours, I wish to know :
a. if this product increase the density of the wood,
b. is the wood gonna become harder.
c. does this product replace water, or simply seals it within the wood.
Reply ….

Hi Sebastien, glad you like the product. I have answered your questions below and if you would like to call me to discuss that would be fine.

1- Would you suggest complete sanding before application, do I need to sand between application, is it recommended… (my wood is IPE)
No need to sand before application or between.
2- This product seems to get in so well within hardwood that I am planning trying it in guitar.
Cutek Green can be used for any wood application
3- To be frank before I put this wood preservative in a piece of work that would have taken me 150 hours, I wish to know :
a. if this product increase the density of the wood,
Like any moisture bearing product it will increase the weight at initial application of the product but as product dries it should return to normal weight but no tests to verify this have been performed to date.
b. is the wood gonna become harder.
Cutek Green would not make the wood harder.
c. does this product replace water, or simply seals it within the wood.
Cutek Green replaces water (it seeks out water born cells within the pc)

Cutek Green can be purchased at www.myocstore.com

Our company Otter Creek located in Ontario, Canada has a couple of product lines the work well when trying to restore or finish a Ipe, Tigerwood or Cumaru deck for the first time or restoring after several years. We have found good results in the Woodrich Hardwood Finishing Kit and the Cutek Green products. Both products have attributes that other stain and sealers don’t offer. The Woodrich product is formulated with natural pigments that are found in Ipe (Amaretto color formula) and with Tigerwood and Cumaru its the (Brown Sugar color formula). When applied because the stain is formulated to the natural pigments found in these tropical hardwood species it takes longer for the UV rays to break down the wood surface which in turn results in graying of the wood surface. Most homeowners and contractors are finding they only need to apply once every two years. The other big plus is the product will not peel and flake which is a very big issue when dealing with stain products for hardwoods.

The Cutek Green works in a similar way but deeper penetration occurs with this product because it has a special wood preservative formula that migrates through the entire pc of wood (not just the surface) and provides additional stability to species such as tropical hardwoods and domestic species such a Pressure Treated Spruce, Pine, Fir and Western Red Cedar. The migration takes place within the living cells of the wood that contain water and drives the water out making the wood product more stable and protected against rot, twist and warping of your deck boards. Its available in 18 different stain colors and the colors come in packets that you mix into the clear product. Decking contractors like this product because it can be wet stacked which speeds up the installation time. Because the penetration rate is quicker than most products there is no worry of lap marks or brush stroke marks appearing from stopping and starting over a hour or days time.

Both of these products can be purchased at Otter Creek by shopping online at www.myocstore.com or by calling 1-800-981-3590.

Its now here and available from Otter Creek Forest Products. Cutek Green is like no other wood preservative on the marketplace. This product will give Canadian and U.S. Homeowners something to smile about when used. Cutek Green has been used in Australia for many years treating large timbers to protect against twist and warp. This patented formula acts like no other wood preservative in the marketplace. Once applied the product migrates through the entire pc of wood from surface to core. It seeks out water absorbed pours and extracts the moisture out of the pc of wood making the pc the wood much more stable and preserved at the same time. Decking contractors will also like the fact this product can be wet stacked and applied immediately to the deck surface. Imagine being able to treat your deck boards and being able to fasten the deck boards immediately to the deck surface without having to wait for the product to dry. Another great feature of this product is it can be applied partially one day and finished the next day without fear of having overlap marks of worry of color variation. The spread rate of this product is 1,000-1400sqft per gallon. Cutek Green comes in 1 gallon sizes and larger if needed and comes clear with options of 18 different color tones that are formulated to enhance the natural character and beauty of the wood without obscuring the grain. This product is an excellent coating alternative for Western Red Cedar, Pine, Hemlock and tropical hardwoods like Ipe, Cumaru and Tigerwood. For further information or to purchase this product please contact Robert Abbott at toll free 1-800-981-3590 or you can purchase on their online store at www.myocstore.com

I have a pressure treated deck that was several years old and it was starting to look drab due to the years of weathering it had. I did not want to replace the deck but thought I would like to attempt to strip it and re coat it to help make it look as new as possible. I was searching around the Internet and came across a product from Woodrich called EFC-38 which apparently works on all types of wood species such as pressure treated, cedar and even exotic hardwoods like Ipe, Cumaru and Tigerwood. This product is granular and you mix it in a 5 gallon pale of water and then you can apply with a power washer on low pressure and then spray it on and leave it for a few minutes and then spray it off. I was unsure how this product would work for my weathered deck that had never been cleaned so I also purchased the HD-80 which is a heavy duty stripper. I was advised to purchase along with this product the brightener which is to be applied after your stripper is used. This product is called Citralic ,Citralic is pH balanced to make the ideal neutralizer for HD-80 and other caustic strippers. I was very happy with the results I achieved with these products and would suggest you visit www.myocstore.com for further information.

In 2001 Chemisys Australia opened a manufacturing plant in Brisbane to produce Cutek for the Australian market. Together they service the Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australian markets

In 2011, Chemisys brought their product to the United States and Canada to expand the great results they achieved with their nature woods in Australia. This product can be used on all types of softwood and hardwoods such as Pressure Treated Pine or Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Hemlock, Oaks and Maples and can even be used on the increasingly poplular tropical hardwoods such as Ipe, Cumaru and Tigerwood.

They believe the unique properties of Cutek will see it replace most other timberpreservative and coating products. “This all-in-one timber preservative and coating oil is unique because it deeply penetrates the timber substrate, providing superior water repellence and assisting with long-term dimensional stability,”

The success of Cutek in both the commercial and residential sector has been “quite spectacular.” Architects and builders are attracted to Cutek because of the reduced maintenance cycle and because it’s so easy to apply. “Cutek doesn’t require any special application tools or the use of any primers,”

Timber coated with Cutek only requires a simple wash down before re-coating. There is no sanding or stripping needed. Cutek is available in either a clear coat or a wide range of natural colour tones. Able to be used on any species of wood, Cutek enhances the natural beauty of wood without hiding the grain.

Another feature that appeals to the building industry is the fact that Cutek is best applied immediately. Other coating products need time for the timber to release its natural water-soluble extractives (tannins) before application. This 3-6 months waiting time is prohibitive for most commercial building. It also contributes to unwanted movement, shrinkage and staining of the timber. There has been a dramatic increase in requests for Cutek treated timber for large-scale exterior projects.

If you would like to learn more about this product or purchase it for your next project please contact Robert Abbott at Otter Creek and he can be reached at 1-800-981-3590 or by visiting their online store at www.myocstore.com
