Urimat Waterless Urinal technology is well received at Greenbuild Show.
Greenbuild was hosted by Toronto, Ontario, Canada in October, 20011. Urimat displayed their waterless urinal system at the show and even had live demonstrations on how the urinal works. They had two of the urinals plumbed to show how urine hits their bowls and guarantee’s no splash back. The bowls are specifically designed to guard against splash back and each urinal has what they call an “Active Cube” which sits in the urinal and as the urine passes through it it slowly dissolves (8-12,000 uses) before its totally dissolved and then you know its time to change the mechanical siphon (which uses no oil) and apparently this is the only waterless urinal that does not use a oil substance to keep the odor down. Urimat’s siphon has a float in the middle of the siphon and as the urine enters the siphon the float raises and seals against a rubber membrane and thus seals out any back gases and odors form the sewer line.
Urimat is a Swiss Company and they have been manufacturing waterless urinals for 10 years in Europe and have their urinals installed in MacDonald’s Restaurants in many countries in Europe. They were at the Toronto Greenbuild Show to help raise awareness of the benefits of using waterless urinals in the North American marketplace in helping reduce fresh drinking water used in flushing urinals. Urimat has a Canadian distributor Otter Creek which stocks the Urimat urinals in their warehouse outside of Toronto.
